The congress of university academics
at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun state, and the National
Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have called for a thorough
investigation into the case of Professor Richard Akindele, the lecturer who allegedly
demanded gratification from his student for marks. The congress remarked that
Akindele, if found guilty of the claims against him, will be unfit to remain in
the academic space. The university authorities said a committee would be set up
to critically study the audio clip of the indicting telephone conversation,
which went viral on Monday, April 9, to ascertain the truth and detail of the
development. In the four-minute audio clip, the professor was heard demanding
gratification from a student who is yet to be unidentified five times before he
could upgrade her 33 marks to pass However, the student rejected the overtures
on the grounds that the number of the romp did not commensurate with the pass
mark the lecturer was willing to give her. Richard Akindele was not aware that
the student was recording the phone call conversation when he requested to
sleep with her five times. In the audio recordings, the professor disclosed
that the young lady scored 33 and if she was not ready to give in to his
demands, she would retake his course.
