EDUCATION IS THE BEST
LEGACY AND POLICY PARENTS CAN GIVE TO THEIR OFFSPRING AND THE PRIMARY LEGACY A
NATION CAN GIVE TO HER CITIZENS.
The strength of a country is
determined by the number of the vast majority that is educated. This is because
only educated persons are enlightened and enlightenment leads to national and
global development. Can this be said of a country like Nigeria, where her vast
majority are uneducated because of some reasons ranging from one poor funding
and neglect of the education, to poor governance that has led to the
lackadaisical attitude towards the quality of the education given; poor
infrastructures and training facilities, poor teacher’s welfare, lack of
dedication on the part of teachers, lack of high performers, high level of exam
malpractices and a few others not to be mentioned. It shouldn’t be a thing of shock;
record has it that Nigerians are the most educated Immigrants in the world.
It is no longer news that the
rule of law guarantees transparency, credibility and the safety of human
rights. Although Nigeria lacks all of the above. However if education is
handled with seriousness, where each and every citizen knows their right, and know
what to do when their right is violated. With the proper
care of Education in Nigeria, it would go a long way to improve the standard of
living of the people, by way of providing with adequate social amenities such
as: good health care system, electricity, pipe borne water, good roads and so
on. Without proper education, it would be difficult to improve the standard of
living in Nigeria.
What
is your dream, your aim in life? Do you want to become rich? Do you want to be
popular? Do you want to be an extremely successful person who is respected by
people?
Well, the key to all this is
education. Of course there are exceptions, like sportsmen who don’t really owe
their success to their education. However in most cases, your degree is what
helps you realize all your dreams. Your educational degree is considered as a
proof of your knowledge by many. If you are educated you have more chances of
being heard and taken seriously. Generally, an uneducated man will find it
harder to express his views and opinions owning to lack of confidence. Even if
he does so, people may not take him seriously. Education gives you the
confidence to express your views and opinions. In fact, in today’s Nigeria, if
you don’t attend a higher education and acquired the papers, you will not be
given listening ears in most occasions. We all live in a society which has its
own set spoken/unspoken rules and one of them is education. The society expects
you to go to school followed by college, get a job, settle down etc.
The fact is, education helps you become a
useful member of the society. An educated member certainly has a greater chance
to contribute to his community. Education helps you become an active member of
the society and participate in the ongoing changes and developments. Moreover,
if you are not educated then you are considering being an illiterate.
